Memorial Day
I have been struggling wirh the dichotomy between honoring the sacrifices of our warriors and protesting the policies that put them in harm's way. Only today I found the answer.
First, we tend to confuse the reason some soldiers enlist with the reason they actually make their sacrifices.
Some kids enlist out of a sense of patriotic duty, others are eventually brainwashed into thinking they are. However, when the shit storm comes down, ALL of them put their lives on them fight not for God and country. They fight and often lose their lives for their buddies.
So, I can now reconcile abhoring our nation's policy while honoring her warriors. The war may be dishonorable, but offering one's life for his or her buddy is very honorable.
(NOTE: this entry really needs to be edited, but 'twill serve for now)
